dolleyes

There is a race against time as Echo and Agent Ballard attempt to outsmart the Doll hHouse and bring it down from within. While on the other side of the looking glass Joss Whedon and Tim Minear race against time to deliver the meat of the series before the Fox cancellation. Both interesting story archs.

Guuuuuys, Wait Up

If you haven’t watched the Doll House, then check out some full episodes below. What you missed so far? Want to have the love of your life, need an expert negotiator, trained assassin, a plaything, basically the night of your life, then with enough money the doll house can program someone for the job.

Echo is a doll with a blank slate for a mind and one of the many attractive dolls ready to meet your every need and desire. FBI agent Ballard has been looking for the doll house and a girl named Caroline. Before Echo became the blank slate she was the mysterious Caroline. Alpha is rouge doll that has retained all his past personalities, making him psychotic genius that is holding a grudge against the Doll House. Echo is also not capable of holding a clean mental wipe and like Alpha possess all past personalities that she has been imprinted with.

A Love Supreme

While Whedon wanted to explore the moral and sexual side of this story, the espionage side is very full-filling. Constantly at a guess and being spun, this series keeps shocking. My favorite cut away is when Summer Glau releases the senator and Echo, then pause, then smash. If I wasn’t watching this on Hulu I would have had a whole 2 minutes to ponder what the hell. It would have been a great two minutes. The characters are methodically intricate as Joss constructs the reticulation. Each layer reveals more about the characters, the plot, and the world that has been created. Each reveal answers questions about what we have seen and plants more questions to answered.

This will definitely have the same cult fandom as Firefly. With both shows suffering the same fate, another question is planted, awaiting a answer. What finale does Whedon have in store for the Doll House, its cast and fans.

Whedon v. Network Execs v. Fans

Another Whedon helmed show is beaten down by ratings and the Network. Firefly was canceled half way into its first season. Since the end of Serenity, Whedon has written Buffy Season 7 for Dark Horse, Astonishing X-Men for Marvel and given his fans Doll House. While I love the Firefly series and In a way I’m ok with the cancellation. Admittedly I didn’t catch the show until after its demise, but I enjoy the short, sweet series that is capped by a great movie.

While I’m excited to learn how Whedon will cap this series and to learn what project he will take on after Doll House, I am disappointed that this series is ending so soon. With the premise of the show, there will be a lot of rich unexplored territory. According to Whedon, Fox was unwilling to pursue any of the more racy issues the show may have encountered. Why not write for comics? Avoid cancellations and hold back writing because of the need to avoid offending anyone.
